What will happen at your first visit?
Your first visit will begin with a comprehensive exam and diagnosis. Before you and your doctor can develop a treatment plan, your current oral health must be evaluated and a baseline must be established. The following will be done during your initial exam:
1. Review your medical and dental history
2. Clarify your concerns, desires and expectations.
3. Oral cancer exam
4. Tooth examination
5. Digital photographs to evaluate gums, teeth and esthetics
6. Full series of x-rays (20 views) or panoramic x-ray with bitewings
7. Measure around gums to check for disease.
8. Measure mobility of teeth.
9. TMJ (jaw joint) assessment
10. Occlusal (bite) examination
Following the exam your doctor will review all findings, make a specific diagnosis, discuss treatment options/recommendations and treatment plan, develop a written report of treatment sequence and cost. Your doctor will consult with specialists if necessary and answer any questions you might have.
